“With plenty of possible suspects, Burton’s (Never Look Back) latest will appeal to readers who want light romance and heavy suspense.” – Library Journal
PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY PRAISE FOR BURN YOU TWICE
I’m thrilled to share the Publisher’s Weekly STARRED review for NEAR YOU.
“Thrilling novel… fans of romantic suspense will be enthralled.”
Forensic psychologist and single mother Ann Bailey has joined forces with Montana Highway Patrol officer Bryce McCabe. An expert in untangling the motives of depraved minds, Ann is tasked to help solve the mystery of two murdered women doused with gasoline and set aflame.
It’s not hard for Ann to be reminded of the charismatic Elijah Weston, who served a decade in prison for arson—a crime that nearly cost Ann her life. Elijah may have been exonerated, but the connection to these rage killings is impossible for Ann to ignore. One of the victims has been identified as an obsessed Elijah groupie. Elijah has obsessions, too. Ever since Ann returned to town, he can’t take his eyes off her. And as a mother with a secret, she’s the perfect victim for an infatuated psychopath.
The deeper Ann and Bryce’s investigation goes, the nearer they get to each other and to danger. After another murder hits close to home, Ann fears a clue is hidden in her own past. Only one thing terrifies her more than the reveal of her long-held secret. It’s that the secret itself has put Ann into a killer’s line of fire.
“Burton does a good job balancing gentle romance with high-tension suspense.”
And advanced praise from reads is just as fantastic.
“It is blazing fantastic! “Hated that it ended,” “This is a scorcher!!! and “MUST READ.”
I received The Diamond Award from my publisher Montlake Romance celebrating my novels reaching 1,000,000 readers. That’s just since 2016! Chilling the champagne…

Happy 20th Anniversary to Me!
When I left my marketing career behind to write my first novel, my hope was that eventually one of my stories would be published. That hope was realized when I got “THE CALL” from Harlequin Books in January 1999 with an offer to buy A BRIDE FOR MCCAIN. It was published the following year in January 2000.
Back then, I worried that each new book might be my last, never imagining that one day I would be a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author–or that serial killers would occupy so much to my time.
The road I’ve traveled has been so rich and I’m so grateful. A big thank you to all the pros I’ve worked with along the way from Harlequin to Kensington Publishing, Berkley and Montlake Romance, and to the wonderful writers who have helped me navigate this world, and supported my efforts with advice, friendship, generosity and, at times, a bit of pressure to spur me on to meet my goals.
So, happy 20th First Sale Anniversary to me and a giant YOU’RE THE BEST to all the readers who have enjoyed my work, rallied around my books and shared their reactions, good or bad, to my characters and their stories.
I hope you’ll join the celebration by entering my Twentieth Anniversary Giveaway for a chance to be among the winners who will each receive one of twenty of my books I’ve put aside to mark the occasion. Enter now, I’m standing by!
