Anchorage, Alaska where I attended Bouchercon 2007. This was my first mystery writer's conference and it was a great pleasure to meet so many devoted mystery readers and writers.

My husband and I became certified scuba divers. We finished our certification dives in a local rock quarry, then headed off to Bega Island, Fiji on a diving expedition.

We spent seven days diving in the crystal clear waters of the South Pacific. Each morning we dove around the magnificent coral reefs, looking for sharks, barracuda, lion fish, the occasional octopus. There were hundreds of colorful fish, the like of which we never see in the Atlantic Ocean.

In the afternoons, we collected the most brilliant sea shells, hiked down jungle trails to visit the local village and even watched a tradiional firewalker ceremony.

The trip was more exciting than either of us imagined. The only tough part was getting adjusted to EST and recovering from the trip. Counting layovers and travel time the trip took us nearly 40 hours.
