Writers’ Police Academy 2015

I’m just back from The 2015 Writers’ Police Academy (http://bit.ly/1cyAOmM) and my head is full of ideas for my next suspense novel!  WPA, the brain child of former police officer Lee Lofland, was held this year at the Fox Valley Technical College Public Safety Training Center in Appleton, Wisconsin (http://bit.ly/1NPLjXJ).  This one-of-a-kind event is designed for authors of crime fiction who want hands-on research that add the right touch of realism to their work.  I’ve attended several of these events and this year was a 2015 WPA sponsor.  WPA 2015 attendees were also treated to presentations by best selling authors Allison Brennan and Karin Slaughter.   This is the seventh year for WPA.

The 2015 Academy was jam packed full of events!

The 2015 Academy featured classes ranging from forensics, handcuffing, witness recall  to SWAT.

Students were treated to canine demonstrations as well as classroom instruction from active duty canine handlers.

Spring 2015 Book Tour

It’s been such a whirlwind spring promoting the release of my latest romantic suspense novel BE AFRAID, the second book in my Morgans of Nashville series.  I made it as far north as Milwaukee and as far south as Dallas as I met with readers, mingled with some fabulous authors and spoke to writers about the craft of writing.  Thought I’d share a few pictures from my Spring 2015 travels.

Barbara Vey’s Reader Appreciation Luncheon

I had a wonderful time at Barbara Vey’s luncheon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this past weekend!  It was great fun connecting with readers and so many talented authors, including Kristan Higgins, Eloisa James, Tiffany Snow, Debby Giusti, Terri Brisbin and our wonderful keynote speaker Tess Gerritsen.  What was my tablescape?  I took a page from my romantic suspense series set in Nashville and recreated Rudy’s Honky-Tonk.  The table was decked out with a red checkered table cloth, a cowboy boot vase filled with flowers, personalized “Rudy’s” mugs, and lots of peanuts in the shell (what honky-tonk doesn’t have peanuts?!) With just days to go before the April 28, 2015 release of BE AFRAID (the second novel in the Nashville series), I signed copies of the first book COVER YOUR EYES after the luncheon.

My USA Today bestselling novel COVER YOUR EYES was the first of four novels featuring the Morgan family—three brothers and sister who are all in law enforcement. Now in BE AFRAID, Rick Morgan has recovered from a near fatal shooting and has joined the Homicide Unit. An old murder case puts Rick in the path of forensic artist Jenna Thompson who is on leave from the Baltimore Police Department. As Rick spends time with Jenna he becomes intrigued with her and determined to uncover the shocking details of her troubled past.
